Ed Steinman

Ed recently (January, ’07) learned of SouthWings from a person who spoke about mountain top removal coal mining at a local Sierra Club meeting. He is an instrument rated pilot with 1800 hours. Ed has volunteered with Lighthawk for a number of years and has flown missions in Wisconsin, Missouri, Michigan and California. He hopes to do more flying with Lighthawk in the western US, Canada and Central America as well as with SouthWings.

In addition to flying for the environment, Ed has flown with Mercy Med and Challenge Air (flights for children with physical problems). He and his wife Rita enjoy flying as part of their camping and hiking all over the US, and parts of Canada and Alaska. Both of them are board members of the local Sierra Club. Each is also staff at the University of Michigan. Ed works as a computer programmer and IT analyst. He has a BS is in Zoology. Rita works in Public Health.
