We are proud to announce that Meredith Dowling is now our Associate Executive Director.
September 1, 2016

With joy, enthusiasm, pride and honor, we are thrilled to announce that effective today Meredith Dowling is the Associate Executive Director of SouthWings! Meredith will continue her duties as Gulf Director in this new role. Please join us in offering Meredith hearty congratulations and well wishes!

Meredith first joined the SouthWings team in 2008. Originally hired as the Operations Assistant, she transitioned to a role as SouthWings’ Appalachia Program Manager, where she coordinated flights aimed at exposing the devastation caused by mountaintop removal coal mining. After two years away for graduate school at Indiana University, Meredith returned to SouthWings in 2012 as the organization’s first Gulf Program Director and started SouthWings’ Gulf Office, based in New Orleans, LA. Since 2012 she has led the organization’s work to protect and restore the ecosystems of the Gulf Coast, focusing in particular on the Mississippi River Delta.

Meredith holds a BA in Environmental Studies from Oberlin College and, before coming to SouthWings, she helped establish the college’s first Office of Environmental Sustainability; Meredith continues to serve on the college’s EnviroAlums steering committee. In 2012 Meredith earned an MPA and an MS Environmental Science from Indiana University’s School of Public and Environmental Affairs. She is a 2014 Fellow of the Loyola Institute for Environmental Communication. Meredith reports: “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to serve SouthWings and its heroic corps of volunteer pilots in a growing capacity. I look forward to seeing what SouthWings can accomplish in the coming years as we collaborate with our partners across the Southeastern US to protect and restore the ecosystems of this beautiful region through flight.”
