SouthWings Welcomes New Chesapeake Program Director

We are proud to announce Shannon Lyons' arrival as our Chesapeake Program Director.

We are absolutely thrilled to welcome our newest staff member, Shannon Lyons, to our team!  Shannon brings talent and experience that is sure to enhance our work in the Chesapeake Bay Region.  More info about her below!

Shannon specializes in bridging boundaries between science and management particularly related to marine conservation. She completed her Ph.D. in Marine Policy at University of Delaware where she studied the socio-political process of transitioning to holistic watershed management for Chesapeake Bay. Through Maryland Sea Grant, Shannon coordinated a large-scale bay-wide effort to develop consensus recommendations for managing living marine resources between bay stakeholders. Most recently, Shannon identified and funded new research projects designed to inform domestic and international ocean policy for the Lenfest Ocean Program. Shannon serves as the President of Duke University’s Nicholas School of the Environment’s Alumni Council where she earned a master of coastal environmental management degree. She is also an adjunct professor for Northeastern University and teaches graduate courses in Marine Conservation Biology for their Three Seas Program at the Friday Harbor Marine Lab in Washington state. Shannon is thrilled to join the SouthWings team as our Chesapeake Program Director and promote Chesapeake Bay conservation through an aerial perspective.
