Charlie Martinez

Alexandria, Virginia

Charlie calls Alexandria, Virginia home, but spends a considerable amount of time vacationing in Cocoa Beach, Florida where he keeps his 1970 Cessna 177B Cardinal (at Merritt Island Airport, KCOI). Charlie is a retired Air Force brigadier general with over 2600 hours of flying time, mostly engaged in VIP transport. He holds a CFI/CFII certificate and instructs part-time in single-engine aircraft. He’s a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) and has been actively engaged in their Young Eagles program for several years, for which he has received awards from the Virginia Department of Aviation. He recently retired from The MITRE Corporation, where he served as an aviation systems engineer, most recently supporting the FAA’s efforts to integrate drones into the national airspace. His SouthWings activities have been focused on conservation efforts in the Chesapeake Bay and Central Florida. His hobbies include flying and home improvements.
