Richard Embry

Troutman, North Carolina

I grew up outside Louisville, Kentucky, where my lifelong friends and I spent much of our free time collecting insects and reptiles and hunting and fishing.  Many years later those same friends and I still remain fascinated with nature and ecology.  We have traveled both domestically and internationally on various eco-tours. Today my wife Nancy and I reside in Troutman, NC on Lake Norman.

My other passion is aviation.  I learned to fly at the age of 20 and use my Cessna 182 flying throughout the eastern US in my job managing a service and contracting company specializing in large pumping equipment and control systems.  The ability to utilize general aviation for business travel has been a major factor in keeping me active in my profession.  With a busy work schedule, flying makes it possible for me to get away on short notice to our family lake cottage in Magnetawan, Ontario.  Last summer Nancy and I flew N2659R across the country to Orcas Island in Washington state for a reunion with my Stanford University roommates, stopping to explore the Badlands and Yellowstone National Park, and visiting friends along the route.
