With 44 years of experience in the construction and irrigation industry, Richard Embry is general manager of ProPump & Controls, a contracting and integration company specializing in automated pump and control systems. In addition to providing equipment sales and service to over 6,000 customers, ProPump’s diverse activities range from wet well installation and rehabilitation to design and installation of SCADA systems for municipal utilities, to the construction of biogas infrastructure and systems. Current projects include construction of a 750 CFM biogas plant at Smithfield Foods’s largest hog processing plant in Tarheel, NC; providing pump stations and SCADA controls for expansion of the Turks and Caicos water system; and control design and programming for a 260,000 GPM agricultural pumping system at the Three Mile Canyon Farm in Boardman, Oregon. Richard resides in Troutman, NC. To take a break from his busy schedule, he recently disappeared for a week into the Peruvian Amazon to hunt reptiles and amphibians with a small group of snake, frog, and lizard experts. Conversations about irrigation were notably absent.
