How’s this for a birds eye view? Executive Director Andrea Cooper & Land Conservation Director Scott Park took to the skies over northern Greenville and Pickens Counties last week with SouthWings pilot Hap Endler.⁣

Headquartered in Asheville, SouthWings is a fantastic nonprofit organization that protects and restores southeast ecosystems through flight to help us identify problems we can’t access on the ground. We’ve worked with them to monitor construction on the Dominion Pipeline, and to assess critical areas like watersheds and forests.⁣

Thank you, SouthWings! You can learn more about this organization and their mission at

What better way to get a holistic perspective of the watershed where you live and work than on a flight? SouthWings volunteer pilot, John Sapienza, flew our Chesapeake Program Manager on a scoping flight in advance of a curated field trip for the Virginia Conservation Network, where their staff and officials will see issues that they work on in tidal communities, such as sea level rise and proximity to vulnerable communities, farmland and infrastructure, coal ash, and energy transmission. #ChesapeakeBay See MoreSee Less
